A lot of music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#000000\">\u2b50 Singing along with the songs of<strong><span style=\"color:#8b0000;\" class=\"has-inline-color\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/somethingpolyglot83.wordpress.com\/2021\/03\/17\/reporting-for-duty-elsa-timon-pumbaa-aladdin-mulan-and-co\/\">The Lion King<\/a><\/span><\/strong> in every language I know. These songs are usually the first ones I turn to when I start a new language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#000000\">\u2b50 Reading <strong><span style=\"color:#8b0000;\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CMxoNzrnway\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link\">Le Petit Prince<\/a><\/span><\/strong> in every language I study. Every time I read it, I discover something new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#000000\">\u2b50 <strong><span style=\"color:#8b0000;\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/user\/show\/84873215-kenny-de-baerdemaecker\">Rereading books<\/a> <\/span><\/strong>I really like in my new language(s): Angels and Demons, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Crusade in Jeans, \u2026. To name only a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#000000\">\u2b50 This might sound strange, but it really works and definitely underrated as a language learning tool: I <strong><span style=\"color:#8b0000;\" class=\"has-inline-color\">talk to myself<\/span><\/strong> while taking our dogs for a walk. But you could also do while showering or brushing your teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#000000\">\u2b50 Listening to <strong><span style=\"color:#8b0000;\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Podcasts<\/span><\/strong>, whenever possible: while running, while cleaning, while cooking, while gardening (but I keep some time for meditation; my mind does need a break every day at least twice).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#000000\">\u2b50 <strong><span style=\"color:#8b0000;\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Making <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color:#8b0000;\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>mistakes <\/strong><\/span>(and trying to ignore the fear of sounding ridiculous).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#000000\">\u2b50 <span style=\"color:#8b0000;\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Kenny_DB1983\">Writing on Twitter<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in my target languages and hoping someone wants to check for those mistakes. In my experience, even if nobody gives feedback (but usually I get some), it is a good practice to add some writing and\/or speaking to your language learning. It forces you to focus on sentence structure, you have to look up words you didn&#8217;t know and if you make a voice note or video you might have to check the pronunciation of some words (using for example Forvo.com).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#000000\">\u2b50 Classes on <strong><span style=\"color:#8b0000;\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Italki <\/span><\/strong>with great teachers. Don\u2019t go for good, go for the best for you. Keep in mind that we\u2019re all different and unique and a great teacher for your friend (with or without benefits) might be not your cup of tea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#000000\">\u2b50 Participating in <strong><span style=\"color:#8b0000;\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><a href=\"https:\/\/somethingpolyglot83.wordpress.com\/2021\/04\/04\/language-challenge-40h7dlc\/\">language challenges<\/a><\/span><\/strong> as they force you to focus a bit more on your language(s) during a certain amount of time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The other day somebody in one of the language groups on Facebook that I am member of asked, \u201cWhat are some of the methods you use to learn a language?\u201d.
